This tired mid-town Toronto residence required complete replacement of almost every landscape element – paving, plantings, stone retaining wall, garden shed and shrubs.
A collapsed fence was replaced and expanded with cedar, tired pink precast pavers were replaced with Indian Sandstone, and a custom gate designed to ensure the safety of children and pets alike.
A leaning retaining wall system including a drystone stacked wall, poured concrete gravity wall, and timber components were completely removed.
In anticipation of future fence post replacements, custom footings with metal sleeves were poured behind the wall. These will enable fence replacements without disruption of the new retaining wall in these tight urban conditions.
A retaining wall of Wiarton Limestone with a unique calcification pattern was placed and extended.
Existing plant materials were reused when possible, and a large number of shade tolerant understorey trees and tall shrubs planted according to the owner’s tastes.
